Subject: Paul Soychak's Marinol Case
Importance: High

Dear Dr. Farber,

I know you probably know OF me, as you are currently deciding whether my life will continue or not. I have no idea if it is considered ethical for me to contact you, but since you publish your email, I imagine it is okay. I am the patient who, for seven years, lived via the Miracle of THC therapy. Nearly dead in 2003, FAHC, which had just excised two tumors from my GI tract, had made a mistake. Not only did the tumors not turn out to be cancerous, but they left me much worse. I could not eat, the normal 5HT-3 Antagonists just didn't work. In fact, Compazine, which had been given to me for ages, turned out to give me a grand mall seizure in the Chemistry Library while tutoring a would be med student in Organic Chemistry. This seizure broke 5 spinal vertebrae. So you see the miracle of THC for me is, what Dartmouth called, THE THC POSTER BOY. Now we have proven that this THC therapy is necessary for my survival in both legal and medical circles as I am sure you are aware with the mass of data you are no doubt reviewing.

I ask only this, before these colossal medical mistakes (some even criminal), I was well on my way to a career on AstroBioChemistry. FAHC changed all that. Not only did they not have the imagination to even consider Marinol or Dronabinol treatment when I was 88 lbs., puking blood, starving to death. Dartmouth, after saying they had never seen such a massive amount of mistakes, suggested it first. I was of course concerned that a drug of this nature would be tough to get. Not the case, it was approved the first day and that is when the miracle began.

Within one day, the intractable nausea I had was virtually gone for the first time since my surgery 5 months earlier. Within one week, I was eating normally. Within one month, I was back to my normal life and weight. Even tutoring again. But FAHC didn't "like" this drug. Kept giving me 5HT3's. One of those FAHC IV administered Compazine shots gave me the seizure that broke my spine AFTER we had seen the miracle of Marinol for me.

When Medicare took this away due to simple greed (they had argued my condition was not listed on the Compendia, truth told it was, but they used the Judge's ignorance to deny it, after 7 years of approvals.) This hearing was done via phone. The people who nearly killed me for 6 months couldn't even face me as they knew it was necessary for my survival and even conceded that at the hearing. Pure Greed. I think in their mind they knew I was on the registry an could just get THC that way. VT law does not allow their "caregivers" the right to create enough THC as I require, 10 mg every three hours would mean I would have to smoke ounces and ounces and literally be smoking nearly all the time. Even if I HAD a caregiver, which I do not, they are impossible to find, it couldn't and didn't work as the last year should show you . I will not die of simple greed.

I beg you, as you did four months ago, please approve this. I am just out the hospital from a C-Diff infection I got at Cleveland Clinic. I have Cleveland Clinic, FAHC and Dartmouth ALL telling you that without this drug I will die. Is this even something you have to think about? A wound I received the very day I got my Marinol back 4 months ago still heals. Every four months are myself and those who care for me supposed to go through this approval denial approval nightmare? I never sued FAHC, even though I have actual physical evidence Cleveland Clinic and Dartmouth both found against them. If you take this from me I will be forced to sue them to be able to move somewhere where profit never wins over a life and death medical decision.

Dr. Risko, a fellow Slovak and my Dentist who is trying like crazy to get my teeth fixed as from this vomiting my teeth have nearly all gone; tells me you are a good man. He has done so much for me, I hope he is right.

Please, from the depths of my soul, do not deny me this med. It really is a miracle I will be happy to show you myself if you want to see it. I am so weak now that another withdrawal nausea episode probably will do permanent damage or kill me.

Please do what is right here, and approve what I have 4 senators, 550 names on a petition for, and could recruit thousands more if need be, saying enough is enough here. I have been through hell. Please don't make that hell happen again, I am just beginning to finally heal. I offer you a meeting, my records, my videos…anything you need to validate what I say here. I have Anxiety Disorder with PTSD from Clerical Abuse. These refusals are really causing my panic to spin out of control.

Thank you from the bottom of my soul and for your time. I hope whatever happens you and yours have a healthy and happy holiday.

Sincerely,

Paul J. Soychak

My Letter To Senator Sanders

My Letter To Senator Sanders

Dear Senator Sanders, I have contacted your office about this problem and I believe the nice woman who helped me was Diane Ireland. I am literally the shining example of what's wrong with profit-based health care. After 2 ulcers landed me in FAHC's ER, they found what they called Tumors. I got 4 opinions and all said that without tumor excision surgery, I would die. I had the surgery. Not only were the Tumors not cancerous, but they effectively ruined my GI Tract. Now there Is so much scar tissue in my GI Tract that eating is painful and difficult. 2 years ago (The surgery was in 2003), a Dr. Willis GI MD here at FAHC did a barium study and an upper and lower GI series and said he saw "Some minor irritation but it looks fine to me!" Things worsened. Pain, weight loss, you name it. Finally I decided to go to Cleveland Clinic to get another hospitals opinion. When they saw the pictures taken from the barium study 2 years earlier, they were shocked. I had a nearly completely blocked pyloric valve which a simple upper GI with an inflated balloon fixed. Dr. Shay at Cleveland Clinic, showing me the pictures FAHC took two years earlier not only showed the blocked valve, but very clearly missed it! Impossible because that is what the test measures. What Dr. Shay also did not understand was how an upper GI could be done here at FAHC without them literally running into the blocked valve. Seems all was not fine. For two years I begged FAHC to help, their response was " What do you want me to do?" Cleveland said that there was no way the valve blockage could've been missed on the two tests at FAHC, yet they were. After my original surgery. I was left fending for myself. Couldn't eat, intractable nausea, vomiting, a bacterial overgrowth, pelvic floor dysynergia, Visceral Hypersensitivity, recurrent pancreatitis. Was at 99 lbs 3 months post op (2003 FAHC surgery), puking blood and was basically told I would die and was literally thrown at Dartmouth. Had to wait 39 days but got there. When I arrived, a Dr. Lacy GI MD informed me that " I've read your chart Paul, took me all weekend! You are just a series of horrifying medical mistakes!" He then asked if I had ever smoked pot. I said yes on occasion as years earlier my PCP had said it might help. Now I am a Biochemist, one who worked for Wyeth. I had never even heard of Marinol (aka Dronabinol). Well, Dr. Lacy put me on this Marinol (basically THC pills). It was a miracle. Within one day my nausea was gone, within a week, I was eating again, and within a month I was back to my optimum weight. Seems I wasn't going to die. The only hitch was that I would have to take it for life. For 7 years, approved my Medicare no problem. Suddenly, this past March, Medicare began suddenly denying to pay simply because my condition wasn't "listed" on the Compendia they use to determine coverage. In fact, it was. I went to the Med Library myself. Found "Post Operative Treatment and Prophylaxis" with no time limits or other restrictions. Well, at the Medicare hearing, where interestingly the judge AND Medicare reps were only there by phone. Obviously they couldn't face me. Well my appeal was denied. How? They said there was a disclaimer but I could never find any. They were using the judge's ignorance against me. Now 4 months had passed. Once again, I was about 99 lbs, All the same as before. My Dr.'s got me on the VT Medical Marijuana Registry but finding a caregiver was impossible. Also, under the tight laws of smoked pot for Rx, I couldn't get enough to match what I was on. By August, after the surgery in Cleveland, I was so bad I did nearly die. I contacted your office and worked with Diane, the Health Care Ombudsman, anyone who would listen. Medicaid at first simply parroted what Medicare said. Then, after your office, Legal Aid/HCO and finally a Dr. Farber (the states Medical Director) was contacted, The HCO called 4 months ago to say Medicaid WOULD pay. I thought my problems were finally over and began recuperating nicely. That approval was for 4 months but with all that had happened, it was assumed they would keep covering it. This past week that approval expired and I found out today that come Monday, I will no longer be covered. It was a shock. Right before Christmas they are going to try to kill me again out of simple greed? No. I contacted your office today, the HCO is on the case but it could take weeks to resolve. In those weeks I will be violently Ill. You see, the ONLY alternative nausea medicines that exist (called 5HT3 Antagonists), gave me seizures! One of which has now broken my spine in 5 places. Obviously, I cannot take them. I write to you as someone who knows you (Your Neighbour, Stephen Goldberg, uses me in many of his plays. Many you have come to see!); but also just so that, if something should happen as a result of this action to me, I thought you should know. And when we thought we had resolved the issue M. Ireland told me to inform her if anything further occurred. I offer my medical records, my own voice, whatever may help here. People, when they hear this say "THEY CAN'T DO THAT" Well, obviously they can and Do and are. If you can help, I am literally begging for my life here, please help me. I don't want to die of Greed. But if I do; use my story. I think it shows what you want people to see. Also, how does FAHC come to monopolise Burlington? Under your proposed Public Option that wouldn't bother me, but everyone tells me to Sue (even some at FAHC), but where would I receive care if I did? Sorry this was so long but I had to tell it. If only it helps in the future for you to have a real case and all the required documentation. Again my medical records are already open to your office. Use them. Thank you so much. I admire you a great deal (I voted for you when you were first elected here!) and I know you can use this to help explain that the insurance companies have already taken over and profit-based health care is a crime! Any help you could offer would be heartfelt appreciated. Thanks again. I think it is possible to reach the goals, at least some of them and the 2010 UN report indicates that the progress in some areas has been strong.
>
> In my view the change of attitude is one of main things that is needed. Why Western countries still support governments who are corrupt or dictators? Why people prefer to give more money to animal shelters than to people in poor countries? Those things can change only slowly and through increased awareness and targeted actions. E.g. our company has during last 7 years supported one EST orphanage and we don't jus give them money. We engage the kids into preparing our VIP Christmas gifts (e.g. hand made chocolate, short cartoon etc.) and as a thanks we take them to a week-end trip skiing or to Stockholm etc. It is important to be persistent in your efforts and to help young people to feel social commitment. If all companies would take few small projects and would concentrate to them for at least 10 years and not just give out money to some big charities then it would be easier to increase people's understanding and why not start reduce poverty in own home county or state. It doesn't have to be Africa as in my mind UN global goals sound very "sexy" but from individual family or child point of view it doesn't matter whether you're poor in Africa, US, Estonia or Norway.

Chocolate Mousse Brownie Dessert
Treat yourself to velvety chocolate mousse baked into rich, chewy brownies. It's a dessert easy enough for everyday yet elegant enough for guests.

Ingredients

1 package Betty Crocker® Original Supreme brownie mix (with chocolate syrup pouch)
1/4 cup water
1/3 cup vegetable oil
2 eggs
3/4 cup whipping (heavy) cream
1 bag (6 ounces) semisweet chocolate chips (1 cup)
3 eggs
1/3 cup sugar
Chocolate Whipped Cream, if desired
Directions

Heat oven to 350ºF. Grease bottom only of rectangular pan, 13x9x2 inches, or springform pan, 10x3 inches.

Stir brownie mix, chocolate syrup, water, oil and 2 eggs in medium bowl until well blended. Spread batter in pan.

Heat whipping cream and chocolate chips in 2-quart saucepan over medium heat, stirring constantly, until chocolate is melted and mixture is smooth; cool slightly. Beat 3 eggs and the sugar with electric mixer on medium speed until foamy; stir into cream-chocolate mixture. Pour evenly over batter.

Bake rectangular pan about 45 minutes, springform pan about 1 hour 5 minutes, or until topping is set. Cool completely, about 1 hour. Serve at room temperature, or cover tightly and refrigerate until chilled. Serve with Chocolate Whipped Cream. Store any remaining dessert tightly covered.

more than a few minutes without at least bartering. I mean, why don't I deserve pay? Because I get sick? Not to sound nasty, but it hurts and makes me feel used!
If you were saving someone thousands of dollars by building their site virtually for free do they have the right to be hard on you?? I mean, I'm sorry I got sick and had to take a break, then they get all pissy with you. I think I may say, DO IT YOURSELF. I have also decided that besides answering simple questions, I am NOT doing ANY MORE IT training or helping for more than a few minutes without at least bartering. I mean, why don't I deserve pay? Because I get sick? Not to sound nasty, but it hurts and makes me feel used!

Description: http://www.un-kampagne.de/fileadmin/ny/newsletter_head.jpg As G-8 and G-20 leaders prepare to gather in Canada, new analysis
Description: http://www.un-kampagne.de/fileadmin/ny/newsletter_head.jpg

As G-8 and G-20 leaders prepare to gather in Canada, new analysis issued by the Overseas Development Institute (ODI) and the United Nations Millennium Campaign finds that, in absolute terms, many of the world's poorest countries are making the most overall progress towards achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) - the set of promises world leaders made to significantly reduce extreme poverty, illiteracy and disease by 2015. Particularly relevant for G-8 countries are the findings which underline the importance of open trade and effective and timely aid in driving this success. For poor countries, political leadership, accountability and adequate budgetary allocations for the Goals are cited as key criteria to drive sustained progress.

Description: Overview on Progress

Eleven of the 20 countries making the most absolute progress on the MDGs are amongst the poorest countries in Africa; half of African countries are on track to meet the target of halving poverty by 2015.

The analysis also finds that most low and middle income countries are making progress on most of the key MDG indicators.

"This study decisively establishes with hard evidence that much of the negative reporting on progress on the Millennium Development Goals is misleading," said Salil Shetty, Director of the United Nations Millennium Campaign. "Instead of lamenting that Africa might miss the MDG targets, we should be celebrating the real changes that have happened in the lives of millions of poor people, not least because of the unified effort between governments and citizens, supported by donors. The leaders and tax-payers of G-8 countries must now keep their aid commitments, with the confidence that their investment is making a tangible and large scale difference."

"This study seeks to broaden the debate about MDG progress. The first findings show that progress is taking place, sometimes in unexpected places," said Overseas Development Institute Director Dr. Alison Evans. "In a world where support for development is under increasing scrutiny, we hope that this work will contribute to a broader appreciation of how we assess progress to date."

The new analysis contrasts national-level progress in absolute terms, as distinct from progress relative to global MDG targets. Absolute progress measures overall progress countries have made and relative progress measures how close they have come to specific MDG targets. Progress in absolute terms at the national level gives a fuller picture of the reality on the ground because performance against MDG targets hides significant differences between countries at the starting point (baseline year 1990), as well as differences in performance between countries since the MDGs were adopted in 2000. Both measures are needed to tell the full story of progress, particularly in low income countries.

The top 20 countries in absolute and relative terms are:
Description: Top 20 Countries

The analysis focused on progress on Goal 1, which seeks to eradicate extreme poverty and hunger; Goal 4, to reduce child mortality; and Goal 5, to improve maternal health - all issues on the agenda of this week's G-8. Amongst the findings:

* The largest number of reductions of deaths of children under the age of five occurred in regions with the highest initial levels of such deaths, such as sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia.

* Even though the Goal of reducing maternal mortality has seen the least progress, access to maternal health services has improved in 80 percent of countries.

* Countries making the most relative progress tend to be middle income countries, such as Ecuador, China, Thailand, Brazil and Egypt.

The report identified a number of additional factors that contribute to progress on the MDGs: poor countries must have consistent leadership committed over an extended period of time to reducing poverty. They must make the public sector accountable to citizens and empower local governments and communities. Furthermore, they must prioritize investment in human development and budgets for health and education.

The research was funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the UN Millennium Campaign. The analysis is based on the MDG database, with the exception of income poverty data for Africa, which are based on the ReSAKSS database. The data on equity - the distribution of progress within a country - are based on household Demographic Health Surveys and Multiple Indicator Cluster surveys. Where the available data permit, countries have been compared over the same time period against average annual rates of progress, irrespective of population size.

The analysis previews a fuller report to be released later this year, reviewing development progress over the past two decades, and a detailed score card on MDG performance.

(CBS) The Dow Jones dropped 125 points Friday after news of fraud charges being levied against Goldman Sachs - the one bank that emerged relatively unscathed from the housing crisis.

The Securities and Exchange Commission said the Wall Street giant made huge profits by selling mortgage investments - collateralized debt obligations, or CDOs - that they knew would fail.

Within an hour, Goldman Sachs' stock plunged 13%, the biggest one-day drop in company history.

I am sick and tired of my parents and their arguing families...my whole life I spent defending one or the other...only to be threatened if I dared go to my uncles funeral and to spend Christmas alone because my supposed godmother went ape because I took her picture...I tried, no more...its not like any of my relatives ever come to visit us!
I need a good lawyer...please send your recommendations to my email paul@paulsoychak.com or call 8024974109
